Humphreys County Schools will utilize Friday, January 23, 2026 as a Professional Development Day for teachers and staff. Students will not attend school that day.
This decision allows our staff to participate in important, districtwide training as we prepare for the rollout of a new school security badge and communication system. These badges will enhance day-to-day communication and strengthen emergency response across all schools.
Because our district operates on a longer instructional day, we earn “stockpiled days” under Tennessee law. These days are intended to be used when needed and do not roll over if unused. At this time, we have stockpiled days available, and using one for professional development allows us to provide meaningful training during the school day rather than extending staff work hours after school.
The January 23 training will focus on real-world use of the new badges, including everyday communication, drills, and emergency situations. Staff will receive their badges following the training, and the system will go live the following week.
We appreciate the continued support of our students, families, and staff as we take thoughtful steps to enhance safety and communication across Humphreys County Schools. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools safe.
